In a report published in Science Robotics, researchers claim to have created microrobots that can successfully traverse the blood-brain barrier in mice. The team from Harbin Institute of Technology and Harbin Medical University in China infused neutrophils with magnetic particles containing cancer-fighting drugs coated in E. coli so the neutrophils could consume them. The study yielded data that found this biohybrid technology was “effective in keeping mice alive longer than those that were untreated.”
