C. Robert Bernardino, MD, FACS, Associate Professor of Ophthalmology, Director of Oculoplastics and Orbital Surgery, Yale University, discusses losing an eye due to trauma, cancer, etc, and what can be done to treat anophthalmia. He also describes recent advances in the function and design of ocular prostheses.

Summary:
1. Management of anophthalmia or eye loss starts with evisceration or enucleation followed by insertion of an implant and referral to an ocularist for a prosthetic eye that can move.
2. Advances in design of eye prostheses means that better eye movement and a more natural look can be achieved.
