After prior case studies showed promising results with PD-1 inhibition followed by chemotherapy, a group of doctors, led by Georgia Sofia Karachaliou, MD, MSc, of the Department of Medicine at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, designed a retrospective case studies to see if a similar clinical benefit would be observed with chemotherapy following PD-1 inhibitor progression in metastatic melanoma. They found that chemotherapy could be a viable option in patients whose metastatic melanoma progressed after PD-1 inhibitor therapy.
