Yogitha Namasani, MD  discusses two recent leukemia cases. The first involved a patient with acute leukemia diagnosed through peripheral smear, flow cytometry, and bone marrow studies, which confirmed acute myeloid leukemia. The second case was a 70-year-old male with a WBC count of 36,000, showing many myelocytes and metamyelocytes on the peripheral smear. Further bone marrow and cytogenetic studies confirmed chronic myeloid leukemia. Namasani highlights the importance of advanced diagnostic tools in accurately diagnosing and differentiating between acute and chronic leukemia types.
