Trees Could Be an Important Testing Ground in the Fight Against Cancer

Trees may hold the key to new discoveries about cancer and tumor formation.

Fast-growing poplar trees were originally examined for potential applications in renewable energy, but were accidentally found to contain the exact genes responsible for tumor growth in humans. The scientists say they will now attempt use the trees, instead of humans, to test a range of therapies that could diagnose or prevent certain cancers.
