Many smokers are often concerned about gaining weight after they quit. For those with type 2 diabetes gaining weight after stopping smoking can potentially make their disease worse and increase the risk of cardiovascular disease. Weight control is a key factor in managing diabetes and preventing heart attack and stroke. A new study evaluated people who quit smoking to determine whether gaining extra pounds was associated with a decrease in cardiovascular benefits that come with giving up cigarettes.
