Jonna Mazet, DVM, PhD, Vice Provost – Grand Challenges at the University of California, Davis, discusses emerging infectious diseases in the 21st century and their risks. Dr Mazet discusses the time required to build mathematical models of infectious diseases and the process of data collection for forecasting. She also discusses the Global Virome Project, which is a global initiative to characterize the virome of unknown, high-consequence viruses.
