For many elderly patients, including those with diabetes and peripheral neuropathy, falls are the leading cause of death. The Journal of the American Podiatric AssociationĀ discusses podatrist’s role in preventing falls and introduces an innovative balance-training program that uses sensors at the ankle, knee and hip to give patients visual feedback when challenged by obstacles on a screen and helps to improve balance in elderly people.
