Terence T. Sio, MD, MS, associate professor of radiation oncology at the Mayo Clinic and specialist in both X-ray-based and proton radiotherapies, discusses study results comparing the efficacy and safety profiles of the current 60 Gray (Gy) standard-of-care dose for patients with locally advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) who require concurrent chemotherapy and radiation therapy versus an increased 72 Gy dose. The research team reported that the higher dose did not improve overall survival and resulted in an increase in adverse events.
