Researchers have developed a new algorithm that helps clinicians assess critically ill patients in the ICU.

The artificial intelligence tool gathers and analyzes patient data in real time and calculates the patient’s probability of dying. The tool is known as DeepSOFA, based on the existing Sequential Organ Failure Assessment (SOFA) framework used by many clinicians. According to its developers, DeepSOFA is more precise than other options because it provides continuous updates instead of periodic data snapshots.
