Plastic is piling up in places all over the world, and that’s creating serious problems for people and the planet. But researchers are developing plastic alternatives made from natural sources like crab shells and trees.
They are currently too expensive for mass production, but scientists contend the new materials can serve as an effective physical replacement for various plastic products. The medical community is well known as a robust user of plastics.
