Juan Pascual, MD, PhD, and research associates, have spent the last decade searching for a reliable way to predict seizures. The research team has identified the nerve cells that are believed to be the cause of seizures in mice with pyruvate dehydrogenase deficiency (PDHD). By monitoring the brain activity of these mice, the team has been able to predict seizures with about 98% accuracy, sometimes up to 4 minutes in advance of the seizure.
