Uterine fibroids are benign tumors that form on the muscle walls of the uterus. These fibroids are estimated to occur in 50-70% of females and are more prevalent in African-American females and in families with a history of uterine fibroids.

Many patients are asymptomatic when diagnosed with fibroids. However, there are some symptoms someone might experience when suffering from fibroids including pain in the pelvis or legs, abnormal menstruation, constipation, and irregular bladder function.
