Ellie Ragsdale, MD, director of fetal intervention at UH Cleveland Medical Center discusses the effect that COVID-19 has on pregnancy and whether vaccines are safe for mothers and their babies. Data from the Moderna and Pfizer vaccines have not reported any increased incidence of fetal malformations or preterm deliveries, and the hope is that these vaccines will work like others where antibodies are passed to the baby through breast milk. National obstetric organizations are strongly advocating for all women who are trying to conceive, currently pregnant, and breastfeeding to get the COVID-19 vaccine.
