Neil Aronin, MD, is conducting studies that deal with how RNA interference interacts with the mutant gene in Huntington's Disease.
The research consists of inserting RNA into a virus that can be injected into cells of the brain that manifest the disease. Dr. Aronin, in his hopes to change the gene, found that using the RNA interference technique reduces the expression of the mutated Huntington’s Disease gene.
Dr. Aronin is currently experimenting in inserting the RNA into a virus, to be distributed into portions of the brain that manifest Huntington's. One treatment hopes to be sufficient in suppressing Huntington's.
