Provider Statement

These continuing medical education activities are provided by Vindico Medical Education.

Support Statement

These activities are supported by an educational grant from DBV Technologies.

Overview

Food allergy is a major public health concern that affects approximately 8% of children in the United States, posing a significant burden on quality of life and risk of serious adverse reactions. Currently, a lack of awareness exists around this allergic disorder and its pathophysiology. Thus, proper diagnosis and management is critical to reduce the risk of severe allergic reactions as well as adverse outcomes. In these CME activities, expert faculty will discuss the diagnosis and management of patients with food allergy and how practitioners can effectively conduct a clinical evaluation and diagnosis of such allergy. The comparative benefits and limitations of emerging oral, subcutaneous, and sublingual immunotherapy will also be reviewed. Participants will gain a better understanding of the practical implications of immunotherapy for increasing the allergen response threshold.

Target Audience

The intended audience for these activities are allergists, pediatricians, and other health care professionals involved in the treatment of patients with food allergy.

Learning Objectives

Upon successful completion of these activities, participants should be better able to:

  • Assess the burden of food allergy in children.
  • Evaluate appropriate tools and strategies for the diagnosis and management of children with IgE-mediated food allergy.
  • Examine the comparative benefits and limitations of available and emerging methods for immunotherapy for the treatment of food allergy in children.
  • Explain the clinical and practical significance of increasing the allergen response threshold via immunotherapy.
