A Predictive Model for Advanced vs Indolent Systemic Mastocytosis Based on Peripheral Blood Testing

Distinguishing indolent from advanced systemic mastocytosis is notoriously complex, even for seasoned clinicians. To simplify diagnosis, researchers developed a mathematical model using basic lab values, achieving 93% predictive accuracy. The model was built using data from patients in the PIONEER (indolent) and EXPLORER/PATHFINDER (advanced) studies, then validated with nearly 200 patients from Dana-Farber. This approach may become a valuable tool for clinicians less familiar with the nuanced subtypes of systemic mastocytosis, improving both prognostic assessment and treatment planning.
