The American Medical Association released a report showing that “that physicians have a huge influence on national and state economies beyond their role of safeguarding a healthy community and productive workforce.” The report presented the great impact of physicians on output, jobs, wages and benefits, and tax revenues, showing that in 2012, patient care physicians contributed $1.6 trillion in economic activity and supported 10 million jobs nationwide. “The report notes that given the changing health care environment, it is paramount to quantify the economic impact physicians have on society.”
