Robert Ryan, PhD, President & CEO, Scioderm, discusses the symptoms and effects of epidermolysis bullosa (EB), a genetic skin disorder that is caused by defective anchoring fibrils that holds different layers of skin together. This makes the skin very susceptible to shearing, which increases chances for infections. Though there is no known cure for EB, Scioderm has recently developed a product called SD-101, a topical dissolving cream that is applied once a day. The medication can be used in conjunction with other preventative measures that patients use to protect against infections.
