Kim Korte, Manager of the Child Life Program at Seattle Children’s Hospital and Regional Medical Center, describes the qualifications needed to become a Child Life Specialist, which include a Bachelors Degree, hospital training and sitting for an exam administered by the Child Life Council.

1. In order to become a Child Life Specialist, one needs to:

• Have training specifically in the hospital
• Sit for an exam administered by the Child Life Council

2. The Child Life Council Counsel sets up the criteria for programs, keeps track of new rules/laws governing children’s issues, and holds an annual national conference.
