The American Medical Association released a report showing that "that physicians have a huge influence on national and state economies beyond their role of safeguarding a healthy community and productive workforce." The report presented the great impact of physicians on output, jobs, wages and benefits, and tax revenues, showing that in 2012, patient care physicians contributed $1.6 trillion in economic activity and supported 10 million jobs nationwide.
