Andrea L. Looney, DVM, DiP/ACVA, Senior Lecturer, Section of Anesthesiology, Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine, describes veterinary pain services currently available for animals in the US.

Dr. Looney says that pain services for animals are fairly new. They began in the USA about 3 years ago, so are not as numerous or widespread as the pain centers that exist for humans.

She says that it is a growing field, with pain centers are in the northeast and east coast, with a few opening up in the south.
