After studying 456 different types of tumors, scientists at the University of Glasgow have categorized pancreatic cancer into four distinct subgroups: squamous, pancreatic progenitor, immunogenic, and ADEX.

According to Leanne Reynolds, head of research for the Pancreatic Cancer UK charity, only about 4% of pancreatic cancer patients live 5 years beyond their diagnosis. Being able to differentiate between the sub-types of pancreatic cancer should allow physicians to offer more specific treatment options along with a more accurate prognosis, hopefully leading to an improved survival rate for patients suffering from the disease.
