Minimally Invasive Surgical Options for Treating Lung Cancer

William DiStefano, lung cancer survivor, and Thomas L. Bauer, MD, Thoracic and Cardiac Surgery, Hackensack Meridian Health, Jersey Shore University Medical Center, discuss the considerations and benefits of minimally invasive thoracic surgery. Video-assisted thoracoscopy and robot-assisted surgery are options for minimally invasive thoracic surgery using only a few small incisions. Mr. DiStefano explains that he had a good experience with minimally invasive thoracic surgery and felt like himself after a few short weeks. Dr. Bauer notes that today’s surgeons are equipped with the tools and skills for minimally invasive surgery.
