Welcome to the world’s first film festival dedicated to raising awareness about the impact of prostate cancer on the ‘whole man’ mind, body and spirit. Being diagnosed with prostate cancer is a life-changing experience. At this time, men are not only faced with a wide array of decisions and challenges, from diagnosis to treatment, but are also affected by the emotional and psychological repercussions of a loss of masculinity, the impact on their love life and changes in relationships with their partner, family and friends.

Thirteen prostate cancer groups from across the US and Europe have joined forces in support of a ‘Charter for Change’. The charter is calling for vast improvements in the management of the disease. To view the charter, please click here.

TheDoctorsChannel.com is proud to host this inaugural short film festival in support of the Charter for Change’s Call to Action. We invite you to submit a short film (90 seconds or less) in one of the three theme categories: Learning, Living or Loving.

Prize
The Grand prize includes coach air transportation and two nights hotel stay for you and a friend to attend a screening of your film in a New York City theatre. You will also receive $500 spending money.

Learning
There are many components involved in the diagnosis and treatment of prostate cancer which require advancement. Learning from current patient experience and the needs of partners and families is crucial to ensure that all men understand the importance of screening and early detection, and that diagnostic and treatment procedures are refined to the benefit of all men.

Living
Living with prostate cancer can significantly impact on all areas of a man’s life. Work, family, leisure and emotional well being are all affected. Men living with the disease have the right to continue to lead a normal existence and must receive support across all areas of their lives to achieve this.

Loving
The love lives of men affected by prostate cancer often suffer due to a change in perception of their own masculinity. The changes result from a loss of sexual desire, impotence and continence issues following treatment. One main concern is that men often find it hard to discuss their feelings and problems with their partner which can exacerbate intimacy issues.

Film submissions should focus on unmet needs in all areas of care, from screening and diagnosis to learning, living and loving with prostate cancer.
