Tetraspanin-7 has been identified as the fifth target attacked by the immune system in patients with type 1 diabetes. Scientists have been aware of the first four immune system targets for many decades, but the final piece of the type 1 diabetes puzzle has eluded them for almost twenty years. This research is extremely important because it gives physicians a more complete picture of the insulin-blocking activities taking place in the bodies of type 1 diabetics.
