The 2011 Society of Hospital Medicine Conference in Dallas, TX, continued today.

The meeting began with an address by Dr. Glenn Rosenbluth and colleagues about the best of research, innovations and clinical vignettes in 2011.

Attendees then heard President Dr. Jeffery Wiese speak, followed by the induction of SHM fellows and presentations of awards of excellence. Next, President-elect, Dr Joseph Li, gave his own address to the meeting attendees.

In addition, many clinical sessions took place. Dr. Michael Felker gave a session about treating acute decompensated heart failure, a panel of hospitalists lead by Dr. John Nelson discussed the pros and cons of being hospital employed or not , and Drs. Jason Stein and Bryce Gartland discussed ways of utilizing technology to improve the clinical and operational performance of hospitalists.

Dr. Vineet Arora, Assistant Dean for Scholarship and Discovery at the Pritzker School of Medicine, of the University of Chicago, discusses further some of the issues discussed at Day 2 of the conference.
