David Tayloe, Jr, MD, FAAP, Community Pediatrician in Goldsboro, NC, President of the American Academy of Pediatrics, speaking here at the 2009 Pediatric Hospitalist Conference in Tampa, Fla, discusses the need for government policy to assist integration of child health services in schools, given that 80% of patients seen by pediatricians in this country are under school age.

80 percent of patients seen in pediatric offices are children under school age. It is therefore necessary for government and pediatricians to work together to integrate child health services better into the school system and for schools to work directly with the pediatric office.
