Mark R. Chassin, MD, MPH, MPP, president of The Joint Commission, discusses Improving America’s Hospitals, the organization’s 2010 annual report on quality and safety. The Joint Commission compiles its annual report to enhance the impact that performance measures have on improving health outcomes for the patients of America’s hospitals.

This year’s report focuses on accountability measures for the first time in an effort to demonstrate the impact that performance measures have on improving patient outcomes.

Through the Quality Check® website (www.qualitycheck.org), The Joint Commission provides information about the performance and quality of over 3,000 accredited organizations. The data, which can be searched by geographic area and type of service provided, includes the newly-emphasized accountability measures.
