The State Hermitage Museum is a complex of six historic, architecturally impressive buildings, including the Winter Palace, the Large Hermitage, the Small Hermitage, and the New Hermitage. The complex houses a truly astounding collection of almost 3 million items. It’s said that if you took one minute to look at every piece of every exhibit in the Hermitage, it would take you 11 years to get through!

You don’t have to worry, however, because only a small part of its collection is on permanent display. So be sure to come early – when the crowds are smaller – take a guide, marvel at the buildings’ intricate designs, and enjoy works of art by the likes of da Vinci, Rubens, Picasso, and Michelangelo.

If you’re in St. Petersburg, you cannot miss the Hermitage Museum.
