According to Reuters, DVB Technologies, developer of the “peanut allergy patch,” will begin marketing in the US today for additional funding to advance research. Viaskin Peanut, the new patch which will defend those with peanut allergies against anaphylaxis and other dangers, holds high hopes for the DVB and its CEO Pierre-Henri Benhamou, who believes the product will fetch $1 billion in global sales. The desensitizing patch administers trace amounts of peanut allergens topically, activating the immune system against the allergen without allowing the antigen into the bloodstream. A commercial launch is expected in 2017, though the company declined to comment on the potential price of the new product.
