As infectious bugs grow stronger and more resistant to drugs, a British Government Commission Review warned that these “superbugs” could lead to as many as 10 million deaths by 2050, incurring global impact cost of $100 trillion. Currently, about 700,000 people a year die from anti-microbial resistant bugs each year, and if no action is taken, antimicrobial resistance could be more lethal than cancer in just 35 years.

Several bacteria and conditions have already demonstrated considerable resistance, causing concerns among researchers including: Klebsiella pneumonia, E. coli, staphylococcus aureus, HIV, tuberculosis and malaria.
