The Never-Ending Saga of Healthy Eating Recommendations

CBS News reports the latest updates in what seems to be ever-changing healthy diet recommendations. A government advisory panel is now reversing previously made guidelines regarding dietary cholesterol and caffeine, as well as lightening up on strict sodium limits, and, for the first time, limiting the recommended added sugar intake. These guidelines will be used by the Agriculture and Health and Human Services Department when they compose the final 2015 dietary guidelines by the end of the year. However, the advisory committee still says to adhere to a healthy diet consisting of fruits, vegetables and whole grains, but low in red meats and saturated fats.
