Stressful Living May Change Your Biological Age

According to CBS News, a new study has found that living in a loud or dangerous neighborhood can accelerate the aging process. In the study of 3,000 individuals from the Netherlands, those who lived in neighborhoods with elevated levels of noise and crime were biologically at least ten years older than their similarly aged counterparts who lived in safer and quieter neighborhoods. This age difference was measured by telomere length, the caps on DNA strands that naturally shorten with time. While the study does not prove a definitive causation, it opens the door to further research into psychological and physiological stress factors.
