Learning Objectives

After completing this activity, participants should be able to:
  1. Explain patients’ internal barriers and learned tendencies that sabotage their pursuit and stable maintenance of healthy lifestyles for themselves and their children, as well as physicians’ own internal barriers (personal motives) that can potentially prevent them from helping patients in the most optimal way.
  2. Initiate a conversation with all adult patients about issues related to weight management and help them take the long-term implications of a poor diet and a sedentary lifestyle seriously – for themselves and the children in their lives.
  3. Initiate a conversation with adult patients who are parents/caregivers and convey the basics of “loving regulation” – a new and highly effective approach to helping children achieve the long-term goal of valuing their health and taking good care of their bodies.
