Newborns Delivered via C-Section At Increased Risk of Health Problems

A new study, according to CBS News, published in the British Medical Journal, has found that babies born via C-section seem to be at an increased risk of long term chronic health problems. These long term complications were found to be an increased risk of asthma, type 1 diabetes, and obesity. However, researchers stated that they did not prove that having a C-section is a direct cause of children having long term chronic health problems, but there is a correlation between the two. Vaginal delivery also comes with its own risks such as the potential for brain damage and cerebral palsy in extreme cases. Therefore, researchers are studying children born via C-section to gain more insights into the long term consequences which have not been as well identified as the risks associated with vaginal delivery.
