New Tickborne Disease on the Rise

According to CBS News, a report published in the Annals of Internal Medicine has recognized a new threat posed by ticks called, Borrelia miyamotoi disease (BMD). Although Lyme disease is still the most common disease carried by ticks, BMD is also posing a new found threat as the prevalence of ticks in Northeastern United States are spreading. According to the CDC, symptoms of BMD include headaches, muscle aches, fever, and can also be fatal. The best way to avoid contracting BMD or lyme disease is to avoid locations where ticks thrive such as tall grassy areas and to wear long pants and long sleeves while in heavily wooded areas as well.
