Sheeram Akilesh, MD, PhD, discusses spatial transcriptomics and its application in studying kidney disease. He explains the concept of spatial transcriptomics, which involves deeply interrogating a tissue section on a slide to understand the underlying biology. He also discussed two widely used technology platforms in the field and their potential blind spots. In the second half of the talk, studies on glomerular diseases, such as collapsing glomerulopathy and minimal change disease, using these technologies are highlighted. Dr Akilesh concludes by providing perspective on the state of this technology and its future applications.
