Measles Outbreak: Have We Overlooked Teachers?

According to CBS News, the recent measles outbreak has sparked a new discussion about vaccine requirements and exemptions for students, but little attention has been given to the teachers and school staff members. Some states have lists of recommended vaccines for school staff members, but very few have laws that dictate which vaccines school staff are required to have. When a measles case was confirmed at a California high school, student records were easy to review, but there were no immunization records on file for employees. The issue has come up previously in various state legislatures, and will likely be raised again due to the recent outbreak.
