Match Day Results Show More Medical Students Interested in Primary Care

Friday’s Match Day showed promising results for the healthcare system. Los Angeles Times’ Booster Shots reports that “Among students in the match this year, 3,135 will be headed to a training program that focuses on some aspect of internal medicine … That’s a 19% increase from 2009, a recent low. It’s also 6.6% higher than last year’s match.” The chief executive of American College of Physicians says he hopes the upward trend continues as the shortage of primary care doctors is still of great concern.
