Is the Enterovirus D68 Responsible for Death of Rhode Island Child?

Public health officials reported the death of a child in Rhode Island caused by a bacterial infection connected to the Enterovirus D68, Reuters article reports. The child has not yet been identified, and the death has been confirmed as a result of a staphylococcus aureus sepsis tied to the Enterovirus, which according to the Rhode Island Department of Health is “a very rare combination that can cause very severe illness in children and adults.”
