Is Ignorance Bliss When it Comes to Illness?

People unaware of their own illnesses often claim to be healthy, but upon being diagnosed with an illness, experience a diminution of their self-image, Reuters reports. An article published in BMJ Open looked at the results of a study conducted in Norway, consisting of 33,734 adults between ages 40 and 70, which highlighted the importance of disease labeling. According to the study, individuals with hypertension and diabetes who were unaware of their condition proved just as likely to believe they were in good health as those who didn’t have the illness at all.
