Hospital Breaches Contributed to Severity in UAE MERS Spread

With over 60 infected and 10 dead at the hands of the MERS virus in the United Arab Emirates, investigators are attributing the increased severity and spread of the virus to poor infection control measures in hospitals, an article published in Reuters reports. Experts from the World Health Organization say “the recent upsurge of cases in Abu Dhabi appears to have been caused by…a breach in infection prevention and control measures in health care settings…”

A growing need for increased data gathering and reporting has prompted the Saudi health ministry to take action, as the WHO, along with the Global Outbreak Alert and Response Network will work with the UAE to improve conditions and treatment for the deadly coronavirus.
