Hope on the Horizon for Celiacs

A pill for celiac disease may soon be available for individuals with gluten intolerance, an article published in The Huffington Post says. A study published in Gastroenterology describes the ALV003 pill, which reduces a patient’s exposure to gluten and its effects. The pill protects the small intestine of patients with celiac disease, though it is not intended to allow patients to eat large quantities of gluten. Currently in phase 2 of the FDA approval process, the pill is expected to be released in 2018.
