GSK Ebola Vaccine Being Tested in First UK Volunteer

According to a Reuters article, the first UK volunteer has received GlaxoSmithKline‘s experimental Ebola vaccine. The drug, which was co-developed with the NIH, is also being given to 10 volunteers in a separate United States trial, which so far, has not revealed any adverse reactions. Because the serum does not contain any of the infectious Ebola, there is no concern that the participants might contract the virus. GSK is planning on developing 10,000 doses of the vaccine during the initial clinical trials in preparation for an emergency immunization program in the event of a successful trial.
