Flu Shot May Not Protect You from Recently Mutated Virus

The CDC has issued an advisory to physicians saying the flu vaccine may not be as effective in deterring the current strain of influenza due to recent mutations in the virus, CNN Health reports. 52 percent of the 85 virus samples that were analyzed by scientists were different than the virus strains appearing in this year’s vaccine, with the most common strain being H3N2. Despite these changes, experts still advise individuals to get a flu vaccine, which will still decrease the severity of illness caused by the virus.
