FDA Conducts Investigation of Weight-loss Drug Linked to Liver Failure

Reuters and USA Today report that the FDA is now conducting an investigation on the dietary supplement, OxyElite, after several cases of non-viral hepatitis were linked to the supplement. OxyElite is a fat burning supplement distributed by USPLabs LLC. The FDA states that there have been 29 cases of liver-damaging non-viral hepatitis and that 24 of these cases linked back to the weight-loss supplement. The supplement has also been linked to 11 hospitalizations in Hawaii, including one which resulted in death. “The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said in the alert send to health-care providers on Tuesday. More than 80% of the patients reported using OxyElite Pro during the 60 days before they became ill.”
