FDA Approves Plan to Provide Experimental Drug to Dying Child

USA Today reports that after thousands of people applied pressure to pharmaceutical company, Chimerix, the company has agreed to supply a young boy suffering from adenoviorus with their experimental antiviral drug, brincidofovir. Chimerix previously rejected requests to provide the drug because “saying yes to Josh would mean having to say yes to other similar patients, straining the resources the company has available for clinical trials that could lead to the drug’s approval and ultimately get it to many more patients.” The new plan, approved by the FDA, will give Josh, as one of 20 people, the new medication.
