Stunning new research has revealed that previous studies showing caffeine improved motor function in Parkinson’s patients, is wrong. Researchers found that drinking coffee doesn’t have any effect on the muscle convulsions and tremors suffered by Parkinson’s patients. This new research offers conclusive evidence that there is no long-term benefit of caffeine on Parkinson’s patients. Upi.com revealed the news, stating that although the earlier trial had shown short-term improvement in motor functions, when patients drank coffee, there are no long-term benefits.

The patients in the clinical trial didn’t show any signs of improvement, even after 18 months of starting the therapy. The media had hyped caffeine as the miracle cure for Parkinson’s patients, and this latest news and test results has come as a massive disappointment for everyone. However, researchers haven’t given up hope on the study, and remain confident they will come across a cure to stop the symptoms of Parkinson’s disease.

There is still research being done on using other methods to try and counter the symptoms of Parkinson’s Disease, which is a progressive brain disorder that occurs when a person’s brain stops developing dopamine. This effects the person’s body movement, and emotions.

Ronald Postuma, MD, is an associate professor of neurology at McGill University Health Centre in Montreal. He is the lead researcher on this study and claims that the initial sample size of the clinical trial didn’t provide them with definitive proof. It is something that happens commonly, as smaller studies show results, and when they are replicated in a larger format, they fail to deliver.
