Benjamin Prince, MD, MSCI, FAAAAI, allergist/immunologist at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio, discusses primary immunodeficiency diseases. Many patients have a genetic defect that results in part of the immune system that does not function properly, causing the patient to experience more frequent and severe infections. It is not uncommon for patients with primary immunodeficiency to suffer from poor growth and development. Dr. Prince indicates that it is important to diagnose and treat early in order to prevent other comorbidities from occurring.
